  • Emerson Carmona

    Emerson received his Ph.D. in Biophysics and Computational Biology from Universidad de Valparaiso, Chile, with Carlos Gonzalez and Ramon Latorre. He did his first postdoc at Texas Tech University with Luis Cuello and is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the lab. Emerson is a Pew Latin American fellow interested in membrane protein dynamics. Aside from his passion for science, Emerson enjoys reading, hiking, and having a good conversation with coffee or wine.

  • Sharona Gordon

    Sharona is the lab's principal investigator. She got her PhD at Brown University with Anita Zimmerman, did her postdoc at UW with Bill Zagotta, and is currently a Professor. Outside of the lab, Sharona enjoys cycling, reading, and playing with her three Australian Labradoodles.

  • Jesse Huang

    Jesse graduated with a BS in Biophysics and minor in applied mathematics from the University of Washington, Seattle. Prior to graduate school, Jesse worked in Jens Gundlach’s Nanopore Lab through the physics department at UW. Today, Jesse is pursuing a Ph.D through the Biological Physics and Structure Design program at UW. Outside of lab, Jesse enjoys playing various musical instruments, partaking in all types of sports activities (hiking, snowboarding, football, running, etc.) and dominating in Mario Kart.

  • Jill Jensen

    Jill received her PhD at the University of Washington with Bertil Hille and is currently a Research Assistant Professor. Outside of the lab Jill enjoys reading, hiking, and paddling.

  • Duk-Su Koh

    Duk-Su received his PhD at Justus Liebig University and postdoctoral training at Max-Planck Institute with Bert Sakmann in Germany, and is currently Research Professor. Research focus is cell signaling and trafficking of ion channels to the plasma membrane. As a hobby activity, he turns local firewoods into practical items such as bowls.

  • Shauna Otto

    Shauna Otto received her PhD in Biochemistry and Biophysics from Oregon State University. Her research interests involve observing events at the membrane using cutting edge spectroscopies and microscopies. Outside of the lab she enjoys karaoke, baking, and an irresponsible number of crafting techniques.

  • Teresa Swanson

    Teresa is a research scientist and manages the lab. She got her PhD at the University of Washington in the Catterall & Zheng labs. She’s worked in science communication before joining the Gordon Lab and is passionate about making scientific research accessible. Teresa enjoys music, movies, houseplants, and hedgehogs.
